Making a Miracle

Thousands of years ago in the cradle of civilisation, mother India conceived a natural ayurvedic approach to nurture parents and babies through the journey of creation.

Today, with the world’s second largest population, India’s accumulated wisdom complements modern obstetrics, offering tips for a healthy pregnancy, smooth delivery and a blissful baby.

A relationship ripe with mutual love and commitment may naturally grow into the co-creation of a child. This is why the Vedas calls the married phase expansion or garhastyam. The sacred ceremony for impregnation is known as Garbadhana samskara. Ideally the field is fertile to germinate the seed through the preparatory purification, rejuvenation and emotional practices.
The prime time for procreation is calculated by the woman’s ovulation phase. Women with regular menses and awareness of their cervical mucus changes and temperature shifts can often sense their most fertile time. Alternatively one can purchase a pharmacy ovulation test or seek guidance from a natural fertility consultant.
An Indian astrologer (Jyotish) can also advice the most auspicious time called rtu-samaagam for successful conception. Ayurvedic texts warn that it is detrimental to conceive at certain times including after a heavy meal, within 96 hrs of the menstrual period, during dawn or dusk, at midnight, on a full moon, new moon, fasting days and when the woman is bleeding. Days considered lucky for conception are on the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 14th and 15th days after the end of the menses. If you have a gender preference the Vedas states conceiving on an odd day will produce a daughter and an even day a son. To optimise the man’s sperm volume and motility it is best if he can conserve his sperm for three to seven days before the conception day. Because the couples’ consciousness partially determines the type of soul attracted to them and imbues the zygote with its first subtle influence it is recommended that they elevate their spirits and connect with divine grace by meditation, offerings or rituals. On this significant day they should feel contented and deeply connected. If either feels thirsty, hungry, fearful, sad or angry it is better to wait. After preparing the ‘love nest’, bathing, dressing in fresh white garments and applying essential oils and flower garlands they can recite the following prayer from Charaka Samhita in unison.

Aum ahirasi ayurasi sarvata  pratishthasi dhaata tvam, dadhaatu vidhaata tvam, dadhatu bramhavarcasa bhava
Brahama brhaspatir vishnu soma surya tatha asvinau
Bhagotha mitra varunau veeram daddaatu me sutaam

This is translated as“O creator and the cosmic truth! Please bless us with a courageous/strong child with a long life and health, with the qualities of Brahma (power to create), Brhaspati (power to alter the future), Vishnu (power to maintain), Soma (power to flourish), Surya (power to be succeed), Mitra (power to love) and Varuna (power to nurture)”.

Homoeo Medicines During Pregnancy

In homoeopathy some general medicines are recommended for the growth and safe delivery……..

Cimicifuga, Pulsatilla and Caulophyllum are the chief remedies to be thought of during pregnancy for preparing the female for the coming delivery. An occasional dose of Caulophyllum 200c during the last 5 to 6 months of pregnancy helps to prevent complications and difficulties attending labour.

Cimicifuga is very helpful for the above but its common use is to prevent abortion and miscarriage. If this is given in 30c dilution twice or thrice daily for some time before the usual period of habitual miscarriage, it will generally rectify the conditions.

The great Homoeopathic Doctor Clark says that it has ensured live births in woman, who has previously borne only dead children from undiscoverable causes.

In the tissue remedies Calc.Flour12x, in the morning, Calc.phos12x at noon and kaliphos 12x at night during the last 3 or 4 months of pregnancy have also been found very useful as a tonic for easy confinement.

Effortless Delivery with Ayurveda

The following protocol is directly from the classical texts and has been tried and tested by a dear friend who is a Vaidya whose son was born in a very easy, uncomplicated and painless delivery, exactly how birth should be!
I have tried to give the textual (shastric) references where can be.
From onset of pregnancy till delivery – Maha Dhanwantharam Gulika
This is a general medicine for improving heart function of mother and child and balancing vayu
It is also known as Garha Raksha Gulika in the texts.
Take 2 tablets twice daily.

From 7th month till delivery – Sukha Prasava Grantham

The name means good delivery and it helps to prepare the physiology for easy and natural birth. It helps position the child accordingly and prepares the mother accordingly.

Take it twice daily 5ml along with hot organic milk as the annupana (vehicle)
If hemoglobin levels are low – Annabhedisinduram

Take as prescribed by your Vaidya while monitoring the hemoglobin levels accordingly. It is quick and effective.

9th month

Daily during course of pregnancy – Dhanvathram tailam massage

Medicated oil should be massaged on the body (daily Abhyanga). If Dhanvantram is not available any medicated high quality oil is fine, otherwise plain cured sesame oil is also fine.

During delivery

After the waters have broken and labor has commenced following protocol is helpful:
Apply a few drops of warm Dhanvantari 101 oil to the umbilicus. This aids easy delivery.
The entire yoni (vagina) should be massaged with Jatyadi Oil. Medicated ghees can also be used.

After Delivery

Dasamula arishta should be given regularly as a restorative
Mother should take oil bath (Abhyanga) for 40 days at least!
Return to eating first with kanji (rice water) then thin gruel then thicker gruel.
Graduate slowly over a few days. This is a very important point.
Bind the abdomen for a few weeks with a cotton cloth.

For the Infant

After birth a little rock salt can be put on tongue to induce vomiting and clear the respiratory system
After birth place a cotton swab with ghee on the babies’ fontanel
Give honey and ghee with a pinch of swarna bhasma (purified gold) continually. Mix 1 part honey with 2 parts ghee.
Regular daily massage with Dhanvanthari oil
Fill the world with love and joy and blissful babies!
